The 2009 Business Brokers Conference was held at The Ellerslie
Convention Centre in Auckland last month. This annual event covers a
broad range of topics and also provides an opportunity to network
with other professionals. There was, of course, much discussion
around the events of the last twelve months and most said that they
had endured a difficult year. Many thought that most buyers were
shopping for bargains and that lending constraints had made
completing agreements far more problematic. Most said that there is
a shortage of business listings on the market.
We learned that ABC continues to outperform the rest of the
industry. While we agree that good quality listings are harder to
find, our sales over the last several months are up on the same
period last year. We put this down to a combination of working
harder and smarter, and recognising that challenging markets require
innovative solutions.
Yes, good listings are hard to find, but businesses are selling. We
have been receiving multiple offers on many businesses and the time
to sell has been shortened considerably. A lack of good listings
has created a supply-demand imbalance with price expectations being
exceeded in many cases. This reflects both an attitude and a
strategy that defy most market commentators and means money in your
pocket. Now, more than ever, we are finding that when businesses are
well priced and well presented the results can be impressive.
If you are thinking about selling, we can show you how to get the
very best result in the current market.
Please call us to arrange a confidential discussion and appraisal.
