CROUCH, TOUCH, PAUSE... ENGAGE!

There was speculation whether the hype surrounding the rugby would detract from buyers and sellers engaging and the results speak for themselves. As we predicted in our September newsletter, business sales are very positive and we have had another record quarter.

After all the hand-wringing, the teeth-gnashing and the Mayor-bashing, the tournament has been a resounding success. Apart from the odd train delay, everything has gone pretty much to plan and the organizers must be delighted with their efforts. And have you seen all those campervans? On game days they've grabbed any available parking space in town and on other days they're all over the highways and byways, revelling in the scenery and spending their money in our shops.

They couldn't have written a better script for the quarter-finals with all the heavyweights in action. Now that we're at the sharp end of the competition, all nations will be putting their best available teams on the park. We're all too familiar with the risks of fielding a 'B' side and from here on it's winner take all - there are no prizes for coming second.

It’s a bit like that in our game as well. Business owners need to be fully prepared and to present their businesses as well as possible. They only get one shot at selling for the best price and to capitalize on the effort they’ve put in over many years. They don't want to leave anything to chance.

Buyers also need to understand that it's a competitive market. They need to do their homework and to make sure that their offers reflect the seriousness of their intentions. The team at ABC will provide the advice, the information and the negotiation skills to ensure that both parties get their deal over the line. Rugby is about training, preparation and teamwork but, unlike rugby, we get two winners.

We'll be cheering on the All Blacks over the next two weeks and we’ll still be available to talk with you anytime about buying or selling.

The AB’s by 28!

Spynnbak golf kiosk

Overview

Spynnbak Golf Kiosk is a locally developed vending machine and scorecard dispenser. It enables players to log in, pay their green fees, purchase tees and balls and collect their scorecards, using EFTPOS 24 hours a day.

The Kiosk also provides an advertising medium either through the interactive touch screen or by the use of branding on the Kiosk body itself.

Spynnbak also offers Golf clubs the opportunity to generate income from sharing the profits from merchandise sales.

For the smaller club without a resident professional or staff, Spynnbak Kiosk provides a system to provide balls, tees and scorecards, a way to collect green fees and record the round on-line. Larger clubs too would benefit, allowing clubs to reduce staff, enabling club professionals to focus on their core business of teaching golf.

The kiosk is currently produced using a number of New Zealand based suppliers. The software developer has worked with Spynnbak for the last 2 years developing an effective software and interface design. They are a leading developer of transactional kiosks in Australasia.

The IP Design Registrations have been filed in NZ, Australia, Japan and the US.

There are over 32,000 golf courses worldwide. Information available indicates 21,000 in the US with 11,500 being public courses. Japan has approximately 2500, Australia 1,500 and NZ 410.

Spynnbak is ideally positioned to develop in such a market. The owners are offering the opportunity to invest in the Spynnbak brand, design, manufacturing processes and technology as well as the software rights for NZ, Australia, Japan and US.

It is also worth considering the wider applications of these vending machines to service other sports or to be sited at malls, transport terminals or other locations.

caci - pakuranga

Overview

Caci are the trusted skincare and appearance enhancement professionals with 16 years at the forefront of the New Zealand skincare and appearance industry. They have a reputation for modern, well equipped and professionally staffed clinics offering a wide range of skin care treatments and products

Caci Pakuranga is an independently owned and operated franchise that has consistently returned a six figure cash surplus to the owner who only works 3-4 days per week.

The clinic is extremely well laid out with a large welcoming reception area, the modern décor presents well with a wide passage way leading through to 6 large treatment rooms.

The salon is likely to appeal to a person with a sales and marketing background, who is interested in the beauty and appearance industry, but does not have previous experience in this sector and recognises the importance of an established franchise.

Franchise Overview

As with all franchise businesses, the Caci support office is part of the brand’s overall success due to its constant endeavours to remain the market leader in the industry.

Caci’s sophisticated advertising drive keeps the brand in the forefront of consumers’ minds through multi-media initiatives. This is only possible due to the economies of scale Caci has through its franchisees and is coordinated by Caci support office.

There are no direct competitors in the New Zealand market offering the full range of products and services that Caci provide.

With an email database of over 3,500 customers, Caci Pakuranga’s predominant target market is women aged between 30 and 55 years of age looking to slow down and reverse the signs of aging, and VPL treatments to remove unwanted hair. There is also a younger age bracket that typically uses the beauty therapy services.

The owner actively promotes Caci Pakuranga within the area via local papers with the business also enjoying free promotions via Westfield, featuring on their website and accepting Westfield Shopping Vouchers.

Summary

Caci Pakuranga enjoys a high level of repeat business, having operated for over 10 years. Turnover is also currently up on the previous year with the new owner also set to benefit from a  secured income stream coming in via monthly treatment programs (running for a minimum of 12 months).

The skin care industry in New Zealand is expanding rapidly, as both males and females become more conscious of health related issues and their appearance. This is a marvellous opportunity for a hands-on operator to capitalise on the solid foundation and reputation of  Caci Pakuranga, as well as the Caci brand in the wider marketplace.

Caci Pakuranga will suit someone who has an interest in health and beauty, and who enjoys generating ideas and implementing plans. With the support of the Franchisor, the new owner of Caci Pakuranga could substantially increase the profile and improve on the cash surplus which is already over $110,000 p.a.

wades landing lodge

Overview

Wades Landing Lodge is nestled in the village of Raurimu on SH4. The Mt Ruapehu ski fields, Whakapapa and Turoa, are right at their doorstep. Their location provides opportunities to experience the vast surrounding outdoor playground.

This freehold going concern business comprises a lodge which sleeps up to 120 people  in a “backpacker ‘ style of accommodation with a commercial kitchen, lounge, bar area, plus the amenities to cater for guests.

The lodge is popular with visitors to the region looking for cheaper style relaxed accommodation with self catering options and/or meals provided and bar facilities. Facilities include:

36 rooms that can accommodate up to 120 guests
      Sheltered tent sites
      Level campervan and trailer sites
      Self-catering kitchen and BBQ
Four roaring fire places in lounge areas throughout the Lodge
      Full commercial style kitchen
      Licensed full bar

The lodge has regular school groups and has hosted weddings, family gatherings, functions, and the like. Marketing includes a strong website with several iconic domain names, brochures, signage and established generic connections. The attractions to the region are numerous and that is where the lodge comes into its own.

The business also comprises 5 vehicles including a 20 seater and a 30 seater bus as well as approximately 55 canoes and kayaks. The three day kayak trips down the Whanganui river comprise a significant amount of income from the summer months. Other attractions/ income streams are skiing in the winter. The lodge hosts ski field workers on long term stays.

Mountain biking in the area is huge with the cycle way going virtually past the door and two popular and famous tracks nearby. This involves accommodation, food and transport logistics. The hiking is also huge with the very popular “Tongariro Crossing” a source of income from transport logistics. They also do “Lord of the Rings” tours, hunting and fishing trips are also popular.

A new attraction, and a “lost world park” involving incredible life size Dinosaur sculptures, is planned to be operational within 18 months. This will be right on the boundary fence and provide additional revenue stream.

The cash surplus to a part time working owner this last year showed near $92,000  so this is an opportunity to combine lifestyle and income. Current turnover is approximately $450,000 p.a.

It is staffed by 2 full time workers with the balance being seasonal, often working in return for accommodation.

The business is for sale at less than valuation and with an extensive chattels list and vehicles at a discounted price.
